About Us
NeoKlasik Orchestra (NKO) is a Prague-based musical ensemble founded in 2020 by conductor Václav Dlask. The name of the orchestra is based on the prefix “neo”, representing a modern and innovative view of classical music with respect for the traditional values of old styles and cultural and historical epochs. NKO’s dramaturgy specializes in neoclassicism and other musical styles of the 20th and 21st centuries that reference period styles and forms. The concerts it organizes offer a wide range of classical music interpretations across many artistic movements (neo-baroque, neoclassicism, neo-impressionism, neo-folklorism and others).

Concert Reviews
„It was evident from the beginning that Václav Dlask chose soloists with a very good ability to adapt their expression to the specifics of folk poetry. This is not at all easy. A singer trained with the aim of being an opera soloist often finds it difficult to abandon his usual stylization of expression to accept the necessity of simplicity in the conception of folk poetry. I can say that the young singers - Josef Kovačič, Tamara Morozová and Jakub Ošmera were very impressive in this specific style of singing. They sang the repertoire - quite different from the opera production - with visible taste, interest, enthusiasm. Although they could not completely retreat from the style of their field, they found their personal and convincing way to naturalness in this specific genre, which does not tolerate pathos, mannerism or incomprehensibility of the sung text."
„It can be safely stated that an orchestra like NeoKlasik has not appeared in our country recently and it cannot be assumed that such a novelty would be on the agenda. Given that this is the work of promising young people, we certainly have a lot to look forward to - let's keep our fingers crossed for them in what they are doing."
„The weakness of student opera productions is usually the school orchestra composed of students, who seem to despise such an extremely useful practice with a view to a solo career. Thus, the involvement of the NeoKlasik... chamber orchestra was a plus for the non-standardly instrumented scores, especially as it was able to capture the jazz and neoclassical layers of the operas performed. The orchestra was placed at the back of the stage, even behind the curtain for the first Telephone. For this reason there were two conductors - Jana Mára and Václav Dlask, one for the orchestra, the other for the soloists. Their coordination worked perfectly."
„NeoKlasik orchestra represents fresh air in the Czech music scene. Not only because of its age - the concert under review opened only the third concert season in the orchestra's history - but also because of the age of the players themselves, the players and the conductor. Fresh and young is also the way this musical group thinks about music and its interpretation. It looks at its older, so-called classical epochs through the eyes of modernity and interprets it primarily in the voice of the authors of neoclassicism with a crossover to all neo-forms, as the neo-romantic Janáček revealed at the end of the evening. The interpretation of such music offers new perspectives and opportunities."
